Air Sickness? Tools to help you overcome motion sickness and get moving.

getting sick during travel

I am so fortunate that I do not succumb to air sickness when I travel. Unfortunately, one of my children is not as lucky and even the thought of air travel makes him feel air sick. He loves to travel, just like me, and uses remedies to help him battle motion sickness while in the air that may help you too.

Pressure Points

Acupressure is an Eastern practice designed to target pressure points to alleviate symptoms our bodies experience. For an upset stomach, pressure points along the inside of the wrists can be pinpointed to ease air sickness. For a ‘hands off’ approach, try a pressure band and let it do the work for you while you relax.

Medication

Depending on the length of your trip or the severity of your airsickness symptoms an over-the-counter medication, like Benadryl or Dramamine, could give you better relief for motion sickness. For the most severe of cases, a prescription strength patch with the active ingredient scopolamine can be placed behind the ear for long-lasting relief.

Herbal Remedies for Airsickness

For those who prefer the natural method of alleviating air sickness symptoms, there are effective herbal remedies to help you cope. Ginger is probably one of the most popular natural products used for relief of an upset stomach. There are ginger candy chews, ginger teas, and ginger extract supplements making this a truly accessible natural remedy for air sickness.

Other tips for fighting motion sickness include: choosing distant focal points when in motion rather than reading, eat light snacks and avoid spicy or greasy foods. Lastly, request a seat near the bathrooms for emergency visits to relieve your upset stomach or ask for additional air sickness bags from the flight attendant. Don’t let air sickness keep you from flying, hopefully the reward of your discomfort will be a fantastic vacation on the other end.
